At this year’s London Fashion Week events, a feeling of love and community permeated the atmosphere on the runway.
One standout moment was the showcase of ‘The Sabirah Collection‘ by Deborah Latouche, a sustainable Demi Couture Modest-Wear brand. Latouche, the Stylist and Creative Director, founded the brand with the belief in empowering women of all shapes, colours, and faiths. In a world where love is crucial, the collection aims to highlight the importance of love and spread a message of unity and empathy. Latouche drew inspiration from heart-warming family experiences that showed her the power of love and togetherness during challenging times. She emphasised the need for such positive connections in the world today.
The colour palette for this season draws from the floral displays that adorned Latouche’s living room, featuring delicate shades of rose, mint, aqua, sage, lemon meringue, coco, and cream. This season, Paisley Rainbow prints make a debut in the collection, marking the return of prints for the first time since 2022. Latouche reveals that the cards and fragrant flowers that filled her home reminded her of Monet’s picturesque portrayals of the French countryside, adding a touch of beauty and nostalgia to her designs.
The Lovingly Modest Collection 1.8 showcases exquisite pieces designed for the modern bride who values modesty. This collection pays homage to love in a literal sense, using luxurious Italian silk, taffeta, and striped organza to create elegant cream gowns, jackets, and capes that celebrate femininity and the female form. Each piece in the collection is meticulously crafted in the distinctive Sabirah style, featuring intricate beadwork by the talented London-based designer, Jodie Ruffle.
The garments in this collection are adorned with clear and glittering crystals that catch the light, especially on the shoulders of capelettes and the stunning Bell Jacket. These crystals are expertly placed on a beautifully embellished headpiece by Piers Atkinson, adding a touch of glamour to the bride’s overall look. To complement the stunning attire, the hair styling by Nick Irwin and the Schwarzkopf Pro team is inspired by the Victorian era, featuring soft and fluffy textures reminiscent of candy floss, elegantly styled into modern chignons with swirls atop an intricately woven cornrow base.
How can the modern Muslim woman can embrace her new collection?
Latouche says that “Sabirah was born out of my need as a Muslim woman in fashion wanting to have clothes that met my modest requirements but were still well cut, well made and high fashion. I adore colour, this collection is full of colour and I think it is wonderful when women embrace it and sprinkle it a little throughout their wardrobe. Our Bridal looks are also perfect for Muslim brides who want a more couture look for their special day”.
